Affordability Scholarship

To help ensure broad participation at our Annual Conference, NAAEE offers a limited number of Affordability Scholarships to professional environmental educators. Affordability scholarships support those with limited resources who are not able to attend the conference without assistance. These scholarships are intended to help diversify participation in the conference and ensure inclusivity in our community.
Who can apply?
Environmental education professionals, K–12 classroom teachers and administrators, and college/university faculty working full time in environmental education or a closely related field. International attendees are welcome to apply. (These scholarships do not cover travel or lodging.)
- If needed, recipients must be willing to volunteer for one two-hour shift during the conference, assisting with such tasks as working at the registration or information desk, acting as a room monitor, or assisting with special events.

Arizona Academic Scholarship

Each year, NAAEE recognizes one or two students in the state/territory/province in which our conference is held who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership potential in the field of environmental education.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate students or graduate students attending a college or university in Arizona
- Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time as a junior or senior (3rd or 4th year) undergraduate or graduate student at the time of the conference in October 2022.
- Applicants must be preparing for a career in formal or nonformal environmental education through coursework, volunteer experiences, and/or paid work.
- Applicants must be able to attend the October 2022 conference in Tucson, Arizona.
What does the scholarship provide?
- One full Conference and/or Research Symposium student registration
- One-year student membership in NAAEE
- $500 to assist with conference costs

Rising Leader Scholarship

The Rising Leader Scholarship recognizes one or two environmental educators who are attending their second or third NAAEE conference. This scholarship was made possible by a very generous donation from a long-time member and supporter who has been active in the field for many years. The intent of the scholarship is to pass on the kind of early-career support and encouragement that has enabled some individuals to get involved at the national level.
Who can apply?
Professional environmental educators who have attended at least one and no more than two prior NAAEE annual conferences
- Applicants must be able to attend the 2022 conference in Tucson, Arizona.
- Applicants must be employed with a nonprofit organization; local, state, or federal government agency; K–12 school; or preschool.
- Applicants must be willing to write a blog or article about the conference, or the value of environmental education in general.
What does the scholarship provide?

William B. Stapp Student Scholarship

The William B. Stapp Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 to help students attend NAAEE's Annual Conference. The scholarship honors Dr. Bill Stapp (1930-2001), one of the founders of the field of environmental education. Bill was a leader and strong supporter of NAAEE and introduced many of his students to both the association and the annual conference. This scholarship is made possible through generous donations from NAAEE members.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate or graduate students. International attendees are welcome to apply. (These scholarships do not cover travel or lodging.)

Young Professionals Scholarship

NAAEE and the U.S. Forest Service share a goal of increasing representation from historically underserved communities within the field of environmental education. With funding from the U.S. Forest Service, the Young Professionals Scholarship supports full conference participation for ten early-career professionals seeking to launch their careers in the field of EE or to become more established educators and future leaders, and are committed to advancing equity and inclusion in EE.

Early career environmental education professionals

What does the scholarship provide?
- One full Conference registration
- Round-trip travel and ground transportation
- Lodging and meals for three nights

ee360+ Community Environmental Education Scholarships
Deadline: August 19
NAAEE is providing support to 25+ leaders in education who are working in communities most impacted by environmental injustice so they are able to take part in professional growth, leadership development, and networking opportunities provided at the annual NAAEE Conference.
This new fund will provide scholarships of up to $1,400 for individuals working in environmental education who are engaging communities that have been disproportionately impacted by climate change and other environmental injustices or groups traditionally underserved by environmental education and our broader networks.
NAAEE will prioritize individuals from community-based organizations and those working with community-based organizations in North America (local, state, regional, and national) who have high potential for increased collaboration with EE professionals.
NAAEE will provide an informational webinar and orientation for the scholarship recipients on the opportunities at the conference, ensuring they feel welcome and well-prepared for the event and its offerings, highlighting opportunities for leadership and professional development as well as conference sessions that highlight civic and community engagement.
NAAEE will create specific networking opportunities with ee360 training and dissemination partners, the CEE Change Fellows, and the EE 30 Under 30 recipients and will encourage ongoing opportunities to engage with new colleagues through eePRO, webinars, EE Certification, and eeCREDENTIAL courses.

Distinguished College and University Programs Accreditation Scholarship

This scholarship supports the participation of up to ten college/university faculty or administrators in The Road to NAAEE Higher Education Accreditation: A Map for Success workshop at the annual conference designed to provide critical information for universities interested in becoming an NAAEE Distinguished College and University Program. The workshop will provide critical information including an in-depth review of standards, strategies for incorporating them into curriculum, sample assessments, and models from faculty members who are accredited.
Who can apply?
Faculty and/or administrators at colleges and universities with existing programs who are interested in applying for Accreditation or faculty and/or administrators who are interested in designing a program that could become eligible for Accreditation.
Applicants must attend The Road to NAAEE Higher Education Accreditation: A Map for Success workshop on Wednesday, October 12 (1:00 PM–4:30 PM), at NAAEE's annual conference in Tucson, Arizona.
What does the scholarship provide?
The scholarship provides up to $300 toward the conference and accreditation workshop registration fee.
